Exploration Activities in SOC

The exploration dept. in SOC is very active one. It has very ambitious objectives, and is successfully attaining them. These Objectives are set to find new oil and gas reservoirs in order to increase the officially published reserves, and to upgrade the present producing fields, using the latest exploration technologies in the oil industry worldwide.exp gas reg The exploration activities are carried out on many concetions located on several sedimental basins both inshore and offshore; starting from Sirte basin at the upto south west of Libya at the Libyan-Algerian borders, and offshore concetions in North West of the Libyan coast. The Exploration department carries its activities by the execution of a series of processes starting with local geological and geophysical studies of the nature of the sedimental basins or large areas of these basins enough to direct and focus the exploration program on areas with the highest expectancy of oil and gas findings, through the analysis of the prelinamiry gathered data. Based on the interpretation of results obtained by analyzing the gathered data from the above mentioned studies, the Dept. prepares detailed programs for carrying out more specific cesmic operations, for a specific purposes. these operations include 2D, and 3D cesmic scanning as well as Gravitational and magnetic scanning. Based on the interpetation of all the obtained results, the department prepares a collection of specialized geological maps showing the type, depths, velocities and rock layers. the maps aid also in identefying the source and reservoir rocks and the calculation of the reservoir volumes.

Geological Laboratory Units

The Geochemistry Unit

In conjunction with the regional geology group, The Geochemistry Unit has recognized several exploration leads by conducting source rock and oil analyses and basin evaluation. Integrating the core description and core analysis data.

The Sedimentology Unit

provides interpretation of the reservoir characteristics including, sedimentary structures, and depositional environments of the exploratory and production wells.

The Palynology unit

studies different palynofacies and assigns several paleo-environment of source rocks in the entire Libyan sedimentary basins.

The Biostratigraphy Unit

assists the exploration geologists to ascribe the spatial distribution of ancient sedimentary systems at particular geological time.

Geological Laboratory

Sirte Oil Company has a state of the art geological laboratory consisting of several major units: Geochemistry,Sedimentology, Core Analysis Palynology and Biostratigraphy. These units not only provide support to the exploration geologists, geophysicists, and production activities of this oil company but also offer services to other oil companies operating in Libya.
